Book Clubs Galore

First of all, I just want to say how embarrassed I am that it’s been four months since I’ve posted to this blog. That’s just shameful. I’ve been passing out business cards left and right so that people can check out the website . . . only for them to find no activity in four months. I’ve got to be better.

My website malfeasance hasn’t been due to idleness or laziness, though. It’s been a very busy season. My life as a Senior Pastor of a sizable church and a family man with many social responsibilities leaves me very little time to write. I can see why some of the great American authors of all-time were eccentric recluses. Oh the books I could churn out if I lived in a remote cabin deep in the mountains. Of course, the content of my books would become less like Death in Travelers Rest and more like The Shining, so there would be some give and take.

All kidding aside, I love my life and wouldn’t change a thing other than the ability to carve out a little more time to write. I am sad to report that there has been very little progress in the last four months on the two books I’ve been working on. Saturdays are about the only days I have time to write, and I’ve been filling them by selling books at markets rather than writing.

I have also had a huge uptick in book club presentations. I’ve done four in the last month, and can I just say, I have the best, most encouraging readers. The questions I’ve received have been insightful and have dragged out way more personal information than I intended to share. But what can I say—I’m an open book and there’s no question I won’t answer. So, if you ask the right ones, you’re going to get some interesting answers. For all of you who have bought books and opened your homes or groups to me to come share, I just want to say a huge “Thank you!!!”. It’s been a blast connecting with readers and receiving their feedback.

Every group I attend, I feel the pressure to get back to work on the sequel to Death in Travelers Rest. I’ve decided to take a break from selling books at markets so I can focus more on writing. Hopefully, by the time I send another update, I will be able to share some significant progress!
